Piranha Literature
by Wayne Mah

  1. The most recent book devoted to piranhas is by a wide margin the best in every sense. Accurate pictures, classifications, information and up to date look at piranhas and piranha keeping. It even mentions the on going controversy with black piranha classification. Title: Piranhas : a complete pet owner's manual. Author: David M. Schleser; pub:Barrons.

  2. A slightly older book than one above, this book is better than most of the previous piranha books yet it rehashes the same T.F.H piranha pictures from previous piranha books. Information and picture classification has I been told a few mistakes. See if you can find them. Tittle: Piranhas: keeping and breeding them in captivity. Author: Prof. Manolito Pinkguni; T.F.H. Publications.

  3. Piranhas: Fact and Fiction,. Author: John R. Quinn. T.F.H. Publications. Good and extensive! Alot of info.

  4. Piranhas in the Aquarium. Author: Wolfgang Schulte. T.F.H. Publications.

  5. Piranha Book. Authors: Meyers, Axelrod, Schultz. T.F.H. Publications.

  6. Characoids of the world. Author: Dr. Jacques Gery. T.F.H. Publications.

Articles on piranhas from Tropical Fish Hobbyist Magazine:
Tittle: Giant Tetras by Ray Hunziker', issue September 1994.
Tittle: Breeding the gold piranha by Hiroshi Azuma, Issue June 1990.
Tittle: Basic piranha behaviour by Joseph P. Conroy, issue July 1992.
Tittle: Those Bitin' fish from South America by Leo G.Nico and Donald C. Taphorn, issue Feb, 1986.
Tittle: Piranha Passions, by Miles Cohen, issue Jan 1997.

For very technical information and articles on piranhas see page 85 of David M.Schleser's book mentioned above. I've read mostly all those articles listed and found them very technical yet informing. Good reading for the advanced piranha keeper. Hope everyone enjoys!
