The Indian Glass fish is a small, brackish water schooling fish. This is a delicately colored, transparent fish. Its internal structure may be seen quite clearly. The body shape is like that of a Blackskirt tetra.

Indian Glass fish are a member of the Centropomidae family which is a shy group of fishes prefering a sunlit, but well planted tank. 1 1\2 spoonfulls of sea salt for each 2 1\2 gallons of water will keep this fish healthy. Provide a substrate of basalt chips or lavalit and with many rocks and hiding places around the aquarium.

Males have a blue edge to their anal and dorsal fins. Breeding the Indian Glass fish is fairly easy and common in the aquarium. The addition of freshwater to the tank, as well as a raise in temperature will trigger spawning. The female lays her eggs on plants, and they hatch 24 hours later.

A similar species, Chanda wolffii, grows to nearly three times the size of this fish.
