Minnows are lively and peaceful fish which like to live in schools. The body is silver and elongated, much like a small trout. Fins are red and the back of the fish has darker markings.

The aquarium in which Minnows are kept should allow for plenty of open swimming space. Heaters are not required, as these fish live in Cold waters in the low 50's. Good aeration is needed, as is a powerful filtration system to keep the water clean. Keep Minnows in schools of at least five or six. Gravel should be course.

Feed Minnows small live foods. Tubifex worms are accepted, as are flake foods, although it may take some time to "train" the fish to each flakes.

Spawning is triggered by a raise in the temperature, and a drop in the water level. After spawning on stones, the parents should be removed. The fry hatch in less than a week.
