The Walleye is more known as a food and sport fish than as an aquarium fish. The body is large, elongated and covered with small grey-silver-green scales.

Walleyes are the largest of the North American Perches and need a large tank. It is recommended that only juvenile specimens be kept in captivity. These natives live up to 15 years and can reach sizes of 15 pounds or larger in proper conditions. A water chiller should be used to keep the water below 60 degrees F. Plenty of free-swimming space must be provided, along with a substrate of stones and gravel. Water quality is very important.

Walleyes are carnivorous predators that need a constant supply of meaty foods. Life fish and beef heart are relished.

Sexing information is unknown. Walleyes breed in spring and early summer depending on their location.
