Spice Is Nice

The Cinnamon Killifish is a great little fish recommended for both beginners and experts

by Mike McEwan

The Cinnamon Killifish is a small fish from West Africa. Their bodies are reddish pink, and fins are edged in yellow. Blue flecks cover all scales. These are hardy fish with one exception; adult males are aggressive and do not get along with each other.

Tank Setup

A well-planted aquarium is beneficial. Because of their small size, Cinnamon Killifish only require a small aquarium. Regular water changes should be made.

Feeding

Though small in size, these fish are carnivorous and should be fed accordingly. Meat-based flake foods are appreciated along with small live foods such as mosquito larvae which make for an ideal treat.

Water Chemistry

The pH in the aquarium should be kept slightly acidic, between 6.5-7.0. A water temperature between 72-79 degrees F will suffice.

Breeding

Males are more brightly colored than females. The female lays her adhesive eggs on fine leaves. Fry should be raised on newly hatched brine shrimp.
