The Green Discus is a popular cichlid from the Amazon basin. Their bodies are round and disc like, hense the name. They have many irridescent stripes and markings, especially on the top and bottom regeons of the body and fins. The main body color is beige to green.

Discus are sensitive to poor water and need an extremely powerful filtration system coupled with weekly water changes. Anything less than the best water quality will simply not do, and the fish may become sick and diseased. Discus fish are peaceful and best suited to a large species tank. The temperature should be consitant and high, the water having a PH slightly acidic and soft. Subdued light levels are recommended, as well as rooted plants and driftwood for hiding places and territories.

Although peaceful, Discus fish are carnovorous and appreciate live foods. Pellet and flake food are fine as a usual diet.

When it comes to breeding, pairs form and clean a flat rock or the substrate. Females lay their eggs on this spawning area and both parents care for the young. Once free swimming, the fry will feed on a special secretion produced from the parents' skin.
