Cyrtocara moorii is a good-sized cichlid from lake Malawi. The body and fins have many stunning shades of blue. The dorsal fin is very long, starting at the fish's forehead, and ending right at the tail. Most specimens available are wild caught.

Cyrtocara moorii is a peaceful cichlid, although it can be territorial. The aquarium should have caves and rocks to simulate its natural habitat, and sand as the substrate. The fish should be provided with swimming space in the middle-front portion of the tank.

This fish is difficult to sex. Males are sometimes bigger, with brighter colors. Both the male and the female develop a hump on their head.

To breed, Cyrtocara moorii needs large, frequent water changes and hard water with a PH that's moderately alkaline. This fish is a mouthbrooder, with the mother laying eggs on a rock, then taking them into her mouth. The more frequent the water changes, the faster the fry should grow.
