A small social loach, reputed to be aggressive towards its own kind. It is highly active at all hours. Prefers live or frozen foods but is not particularly fussy. It is an orangy brown loach with a vivid black stripe running from snout to tail along its back. It has a tendency to develop faint perpendicular stripes on its flanks with age. Like most botia, it is laterally compressed and quite arched. We keep ours (discovered in the coldwater tank of a general petstore) in a 33 gallon with three clown loaches and four Brochis. The temperature is 28 centigrade and the ph is neutral. It is one of the prides of our collection and is highly recommended.
