Zebra Danios are a popular aquarium fish that do great in the community tank. These cyprinids have elongated bodies with alternating dark and light stripes that run horizontally from head to tail. Albino and fancy styles have been commercially bred.

Zebra Danios should be kept only with other peaceful fish, like those kept in a community aquarium. Schools of at least six are highly recommended, and they will school with other Danio species of similar color patterns. Frequent water changes are essential to this fish's health.

Feed Zebra Danios a varied diet. They are omnivorous and thus there is a large menu to choose from. Small live foods such as insect larvae and blood worms, as well as blanched lettuce or crushed algae tablets make great foods.

Males are generally slimmer than females. Zebra Danios are unique cyprinids in that males are loyal and usually only breed with one female for life. Pairs will form and breed in thickets of fine-leaved plants. 300-400 eggs are laid by the female which hatch about 48 hours thereafter. Feed the fry small foods such as prepared fry food or brine shrimp nauplii.
