The Clown Triggerfish is quite likely the most popular of all the Triggerfish. This fish has a slightly curved dorsal surface and a more pointed ventral surface, giving a nonsymmetrical appearance. The body is dark brown - almost black, and the lower half is covered with stunning white spots of varying sizes, all fairly large. A light colored area almost like a saddle is present on the back, with many small dark marks. The caudal penduncle is white, as is a stripe below the eyes and a narrower stripe around the brilliant yellow mouth.

The Clown Trigger is widespread from East Africa, throughout the Indian Ocean, and to Fiji in the mid-Pacific. They are large fish, needing large aquariums with lots of swimming space as well as a few hiding places. At night, the fish will wedge itself into the cave using its dorsal spine.

This a popular fish, but juvenile specimens can be hard to acclimatize to aquarium conditions. Once acclimatized however, they will eat almost all foods. Recommended are live foods of any type, as well as meaty foods such as beef heart. This fish is carnivorous and intolerant of others. They are best kept alone or with other large fish that can handle themselves. An fully grown adult Clown Triggerfish is truly an amazing site.
