Max size:..................45"
Temperature:...........61-73 F.
Min tank size:..........300 gallons
Food:.........................live foods, meat, pellets

The Dusky Perch, or Merou, somewhat resembles a Grouper. This large very fish has a protruding lower jaw that it uses to catch its prey. The base color of the body varies, but is generally a dark brown, with whiting dots on the back and flanks. The belly is a pale beige.

The Dusky Perch lives on rocky coasts, also on the edge of Posidonia beds. The aquarium should mimic theis environment, and be very large with open swimming space. A fish of this size (over a meter long) needs a large tank and is possibly better suited to public aquaria.

This fish is carnivorous and needs a constant supply of food. Younger fish are more active, and quickly outgrow most home aquariums. A heater is not needed as long as the temperature doesn't drop into the 50's. It is recommended to only keep these fish with other large fish that can take care of themselves.
