The Emperor Snapper is a powerful and compact fish with a large head. The base color is a rusty red, with three very thick broad white verticle bands.

This is an very large fish that needs a very large tank. It appreciates a well-lit aquarium, with plenty of hiding spots, but also plenty of open swimming room. If kept in a cramped aquarium, they will become aggressive and so they need their space. They prefer to school, but that requires an extremely large display tank.

Emperor Snappers are predatory hunters, but will accept a large variety of prepared food. Favorite foods include crustaceans and other invertebrates. Beef heart is a good daily food for this fish. They grow very quickly on a good diet and will outgrow any regular aquarium.
