Gaimard's Wrasse is an elongated fish from the tropical regions of the Pacific and Indian oceans. Juveniles sport a much different color pattern than adults. Young specimens have a red base color with a few white spots with thin black borders. As the fish ages and grows around 3 or 4 inches, the thin black borders of the white spots thicken, and the belly becomes darker. The red body color also turns orange. Finally, when the fish reaches full maturity, it displays brilliant coloring. The rear half of the Wrasse is a greenish color and has several dark spots. The base of the caudal fin is bright red, as is the dorsal. The anal fin is edged in blue and the head is a yellowish-pink with blue lines.

The tank should have a sandy substrate with scattered rocks and stone fragments.
