The Golden, or Barred Jack, is a large schooling fish capable of reaching very fast speeds in the open waters of the Pacific. The body color is a creamy white with hints of yellow and beige. Numerous black stripes run vertically along the fish. All fins have a yellow sheen.

Because of their large size, they are suitable for the home aquarium only when young. They soon outgrow even large display tanks, and need large open waters to thrive. They are middle to surface dwellers, so caves and substrate are of no concern to these fish. Light levels should be strong.

Only in the largest of aquariums may these fish be kept in schools. Breeding and sexing information has not been reported.
