Aquaria Central .....................Long-Horned Lionfish

Pterois radiata
Other names:...........Long-Horned Scorpionfish
Origin:......................Tropical Indo-Pacific
Max size:..................8"
Temperature:...........75-79 F.
Min tank size:..........70 gallons
Food:.........................live foods, meat, pellets

The Long-Horned Lionfish is shaped like the common lionfish, Pterois volitans, except its spines and fins are much longer and flashier. The fish is dark brick red, with all sorts of white lines on its body. All spines are lined in white.

This Lionfish is a beautiful site in the home aquarium. They are a good addition to the large reef tank, and appreciate hiding places. Several Lionfish may be kept together successfully in a large enough tank. Provide good light levels.

A voracious predator, these fish should be fed live foods or at least meaty foods. Beef heart is accepted, as well as fish. The fish uses its large fins to intimidate other fishes when confronted.
