The Pyjama Cardinalfish is a small fish with two dorsal fins. These fish are nocturnal by nature, and tend to remain stationary for long periods. This species is a curiously patterned fish which appears to be made up of parts from very different fishes. The eyes are big, as is the mouth. Red spots cover the rear half of the fish's body.

Despite its small size, this fish is very predatory, feeding in nature on small fishes, crustaceans, and large plankton. These fish appreciate the company of others in a species tank.
