The Painted Comber is a marine fish that lives in the sub-tropic regeons of the Mediterranean and eastern Atlantic, from western France to Senegal. The fish is elongated and light in color, with dark, zebra-like stripes running down the body. The belly sports a a large but faded purple patch of color.

These fish hide out within algae-covered rocks. In the aquarium they should be provided with plenty of hiding places. They are rather shy fish, and take comfort in rocky caves. They may be kept with fish of similar size, and are relatively peaceful.

Painted combers should be provided with live foods, preferably small fishes. They will also accept most other common foods including crustaceans.

Sexing information is unknown, and spawning hasn't been achieved in captivity.
