if i get a 29 gallon saltwater tank. how many lbs live rock do I need to house 3-6 small small fish and a clean up crew??? THANKS you people are really helping me.

Usual recommendation is 1-1.5pounds per 1G. I would start off on the slightly small side first (about 25lbs) and then add some more expensive pieces slowly overtime. Be careful when selecting your pieces. Have an arrangment plan in mind before buying them and placing them in your tank. I personally like ones with lots of holes and caves for my fish and other creatures to hide in.

Yup, sorry about that ^^

the fiji live rock in my area runs about $6.99 lb. then there are some nice pieces for $9.99....

**** this live rock is gonna be expensive! so 25 lbs.. 175 bucks...

that should be okay???

I know, I was pretty shocked when I figured out my LR price. For some reason I didn't even consider how pricey it would be at first. If price is a concern with you you might be able to get off with buying 20lbs at first. It really depends on your cycling plan. Are you buying cured or uncured? Are you going to use uncured to help cycle?

planning on using cured rock.... i heard you can put shrimp in the tank and let it decay for ammonia

23lb should be fine for the initial startoff then. Once the tank is cycled you can add some more of the expensive cured LR to seed the cheap cured. A good ending amount should be about 30-40lbs total. Some may even say more since liverock is a great natural filter.

Oh and the shrip way of cycling is a good way, even though I didnt do it. Read the cycling sticky for more help:)

Look on craigslist. I got live rock in my area for $3 a pound. It came from a guy who had several tanks and is down scaling.
