But I don't have the time, the space, nor the money.

Heck, I'd even settle for a 1,000-gallon tank.

Can anyone relate? :D

I would go snorkling in my swim suit.

That'd be so cool.

Go find a dive shop, get certified, go diving & the pain should begin to taper off. And since your living where you are go to the coast and go diving/kayaking w/ some migrating mammal's, you well be humbled:)

omg!!! That's freaking ridiculous!!! I mean, I'd love having one of those but ****... I don't know if I'd actually go through the trouble of saving money for 9 years, then actually building the entire thing. Yeesh.... hehe. Awesome though.

if you want a 50,000 gallon tank, go get your snorkel and flippers and dive into the ocean off of Aruba, you will see some great fish, its even home to the 3 foot green morray

i'll be satisfied with a 90 or 100G tank for a future Oscar and Silver Dollars or a 55G tank for Ranchu's.

True but you always run out of air way too soon. Unless you have a re-breather.

Well it's not 50 000g, but 20 000g is pretty big LOL. I'm still in shock, I somehow managed to convince my parents to convert our swimming pool. We've almost finalized planning then we need to buy the extra bits n pieces, plant it and then make a decision on fish and voila LOL. can you tell I'm excited?

I'd be content with 500 gallon.

Yeah... that caught my eye too. My water bill would go through the roof.

The pictures below show the filling up process. It takes 7 days to fill. The Aquarium was filled and drained over 3 month period 5 times to insure any toxins were flushed out.

I don't over feed and I do about 10,000 gallon water changes every week.

Talk about being a pain having to do weekly water changes lol.

Folks:

I have not read every post in this thread in detail and I hope my post is not redundant. If I am able I hope to set up a large tank at the office next year.

The following is my general thinking and everyone please comment on/poke holes in it.

The front and back glass would be 15' (any integer multiple of 5').
1) For cross bracing of the top at 5' On Center which will significantly reduce the glass thickness
2) Allow for 48" HQI-MH lighting with space between the fixtures.

The Width and Depth would be 3'.
1) One you get past a 2.5' wide and 2' deep tank utensils are required for working on the bottom.

A 15'x3'x3' tank yields 1000G.

I think you should start a new thread for your project. I have no experience building such a large tank, but I think you might be better off with three big 'windows' rather than a solid glass front panel.

I bounce back and forth between the two sites and from what read arapaimag (http://www.monsterfishkeepers.com/forums/member.php?u=3327) knows what he's doing. I dont think he just jumped into building a 50,000 gallon tank. The room above the tank if im not mistaken houses his birds.

I plan on having 2 monster tanks when I have my house bulit one freshwater and one saltwater. I figure when they pour the foundation they could pour some cement and make 2 stands.

yeah i think he knows what hes doing. for water changes the water drains out from the bottom then gets filled from the flip of a switch(not literally that i know of) as well. the tank has been up for a little while and it's doing good so far. he saved up and planned out this tank for years to make it happen, and he really did it.
and yeah he houses his birds up top as well.
he has a bunch of other tanks including a 15,000 gallon i think.. and he says his water bill is pretty high.

Did you actually read the other thread or have you followed his build? When I see him talking about having to replace all the flooring above the tank AFTER it was built. When I hear about all the metal rusting ... etc it tells me that he had not fully thought out things before hand. That doesnt mean he doesnt know what hes doing - obviously he knows quite a bit, it just means he has learned along the way as he jumped into it.

Drain through the floor & fill from the top.

Same way I change the water in my leaky pool LOL
