hi

I got 2 new German Blue Rams yesterday. They are about 2cm long. I think they are a male & a female, because of the difference in colouration and shape but not 100% certain.

Anyway, the one I think is the female seems to flap her fins very fast and spends a lot of time "sitting" on the gravel. The male stays near her, but seems much better. The female CAN swim higher, but seems to struggle, especially compared to the male. They are moving around quite a bit.

Could it be a damaged bladder from the move? Something else? Just settling in?

These are my first rams - so I don't know what normal behavious is.

assuming your water parameters are perfect and that you acclimated these fish to your water chemistry appropriately, it's too early to worry about apparently abnormal behaviour. i'd give them a week to settle in and worry.

Yes to both of the above. Of the last 60 fish I have purchased, I have noly lost one in the move....

Thanks. I will chill a little bit...

Slight fluctuation on time of day and ambient temp, but between 25 - 25.5 celcius.

Hi, I also got blue rams for the first time about 2 weeks ago. I let them acclimate to the tank for about 2 and a half hours...They can be quite delicate so I'm led to believe.

Anyway, my ones seem to flap their fins rapidly too...I just figured it was because they are so small and the current is quite strong.

One of the rams was quite forward straight away but the other took about a week before it trusted me as the "food source" not to swim away everytime I came near.

Be patient with them, 2cm is tiny.
