I have a 150 gallon tank with 2 Gold oscars a tricolor shark and a TFB. and the 2 oscars have been kind of battling. I got them when they were about 1.5 inches now they are about 6-8 inches. One will open its mouth wide and charge the other and sometimes it looks like they are biting each others mouths. they have plenty of hiding spots but still do this for about an hour a night when i watch them. Anyone think they are male and female. I will try to get video of this act and post it for all to see. let me know what you think about this behavior? Also they were the same size when i got them now one is slightly bigger than the other...

they could be a male and female, they could be two males, they could be two females. oscars are monomorphic .. i.e, there's no observable way to tell male from female until and unless they spawn.

Sounds about right to me. That's how my oscars used to do it, too.

It could be that they are now juveniles and are establishing whos the dominant one. Mine did the same for about a week or so, not biting but open mouth shoving. One of mine (dominant one) has grown slightly larger than the other as well, yet they both eat the same and they even sleep next to eachother.
I would keep a close eye on them, they could possibly be a male and female, but ive also heard of instances where oscars grow completely intolerant of the other.
