I didn't use the noodle either. I located the quick disconnects about 6 inches away from the filter. (2217)

3" tube from inlet/outlets to valves, rest of tubing to intake & spraybar. The noodle is wrapped around the tubing that goes over the rim of the tank to the spraybar - to prevent kinking or binding.

ohhmernn, my 2217 using the valves is setup the same way as the photo... one handy feature is being able to prime the canister much easier with them. I took off the return line (small one) and closed the valve on the inlet side.

Then suck air from the canister with your mouth to create a decent vacuum, open the valve and bleed air from the canister with your finger over it as the water siphons in at a very quick rate. Then close the inlet valve once she's primed up, connect the outlet & open them both.

I also rocked the filter gently from side to side for a minute or so to purge the air from it... not a single drip or leak required!
