Trouble Keeping Catfish & Plecos Alive

I have had a 40-gal tank for more than 5 years. I had two catfish that lived for several years and finally died. In the last two years I have not been able to keep any bottom dweller alive for more than a few days.

I have had my water tested and make routine water changes. In desperation, I replaced the heater, powerhead, rock. Nothing seems to help.

I have had hatchetfish, rasboras, angels, etc. in the tank and they have no problem.

Does anyone have any ideas?

when 'bottom feeders' die, it's almost always due to lack of nutrition. if you buying healthy fish and it's only the 'catfish' that are dieing, i'd look to what you're feeding them, when you're feeding them, and whether or not they're getting enough.
