My Goldfish..

Hi,

Just snapped a few pics of my goldfish and wanted to share them. I think this is the first time I got an actual picture instead of a blur of orange or black lol.

They are temporarily in a 20 gallon until next Thursday when they will move into their permanent 60 gallon home. I have 2 AC HOB filters on the tank now and will add a canister along with them when they are moved to the bigger tank. They live with a few apple snails and some ghost shrimp.

A few more...

Here are a few more.... I just got the white/red oranda yesterday and it has some very pretty markings on it and a big, square cap compared to my other 2 I have. Also looks like it has a mustache or lipstick on it's top lip. I have 4 altogether but they are only about 1 1/2 inches without the tail, all still really young I think. The black moor and her/him always seem to swim around together, it is really cute. I just noticed the reflection from the door on my computer desk is really visable in the top pic.lol

I have too many live plants in the tank with them I think, but my plants grow like crazy in my goldfish tank. I just gave away a bunch of hornwort and now the java moss is overtaking the tank. There are a few fake plants too. Put them in when I first started the tank so it didn't look so bare. Not changing anything until next week when I move them to their new home. I don't know why I am upgrading them to a bigger tank as all 4 of them always sit in the right hand corner waiting for food...they are next to my computer and see me sitting here so they don't swim anywhere in case I happen to drop food in for them lol.

I have one or two shots, but since I have been pulling out plants and giving them away the tank is pretty disorganized. I also had my air tube hidden until I started yanking out plants lol.

This is an old tank I had in the shed, mismatched pieces and all. Then I was at Wal-Mart and saw 2 little goldfish that were covered in ich and the rest of the tank mates were just floating head over tail completely covered with ich and almost dead. So being the sucker I am, I ran home, dug the tank out of the shed, filled it with water, stole a hob filter from one of my other tanks and a few ornaments from that tank too, then ran back to Wal-Mart and bought 2 goldfish covered with ich. Brought them home, treated them and now they are doing great. That was probably about 2 months ago. Since then I have added 2 more goldies. They are doing fine in the 20 for the moment, I test water every other day and have 2 filters on the tank until I get them in the big tank next Thursday.

hmmm.... even after moving them to the 60G you may have some work on your hands once they start to get close their adult size (8"). good luck, they are lovely fish.
 
Thanks fishcatch. I know a 20 is wayyy to small for them but it will only be for 1 more week until the 60 is ready. I think a 60 gallon tank for the four of them will be fine for quite a while. In time if they do outgrow the 60 I will provide a 75 for them. Tanks are not that expensive it is all the stuff that you need to put in the tank that adds up to alot of cash pretty quick lol. I figure it will be quite a while in the future that I will have to worry about a bigger tank. I enjoy taking care of all of my fish....even doing water changes and cleaning tanks...so I don't mind if I have to change water twice a week or test every other day to make sure the water is good for them not to just survive in but to be happy and healthy too. Sounds kinda sappy doesn't it? :rolleyes:

you do know you can cycle it immediately by transferring your filter media, right?
 
yep, that's why I have 2 filters running on the 20 right now so I can put them both over to the 60 when I get it set up. I gave the tank to my cousin a few years ago because I had back surgery and couldn't take care of my tanks for awhile. Now she upgraded and is bringing the tank back to me next Thursday when she comes back to North Dakota to visit. So I will be ready to change everything over when it gets here.

oh... I though by you saying it will be ready soon you meant it will be done with a fishless cycle.

I was actually thinking of doing something similar by taking one of the goldfish from my local boys and girls clubs' terriblity OS 40G with 7 goldfish and keeping it in a 10G until I can get it a 30G for a permanent home..
