sand and gravel

I am thinking of setting up my 29 with a mixture of sand in the front middle of the tank and gravel in back and on sides. Has anyone else done this and if so did it work okay.Thoughts or suggestions please.

I tried a similar thing in my 50g when I first set it up, sand one end and gravel at the other. Looked great for a while but eventually it all just mixes together.

Personally I like just sand, its easier to look after (it stays cleaner than gravel).

I also like sand better than gravel, but make sure you stir it up with frequent gravel vacs. Tightly packed sand tends to cause pockets of anaerobic conditions.

I've had better luck with it staying seperated when I silicone in a flexible piece of acrylic on edge, like a border/wall, to limit mixing.

thats what i would do also. make some kind of wall to keep the two in there own area. it can look really nice. i have seem some that looked like a river or something to a beach. kind of hard to explain.
