I was wondering since i can't use HOB filters(i have a 55g acrylic), what is the BEST alternative? I really want the Magnum350 but, i can't hang the Bio-Wheels. Do i need the Biowheels? What if i get a Eheim 2234, is it sufficient filtration?

No you do not need the bio wheels. I run several Mags without them and have for years (30+).

I am running my mag 350 without a biowheel and have no problems. I put bio-media from an aquaclear 70 in the filter insted of carbon.

bio wheels are nice but not needed. i tossed some floss into mine.
