fluorite help and question

what does flourite supply for the roots, is there an alternative to using it? how long would it last, does it run out of its ferts?
i already have an established 26 gallon and i wanted to go planted so i was wondering if i really had to put in fluorite.

thanks for any advice.

You don't need Flourite. It provides minerals (at a very slow rate) to the roots. It also absorbs other nutrients and releases them. Flourite will last practically forever.

Fluorite in itself is not a fertilizer. Dido on what Rex posted.

there is eco complete which is like Fluorite. you can also use root tabs.
