My P. scalare likes to periodically go to the surface and 'drink' air (that's what it looks like).

He behaves normally otherwise, seems to belch on occasion.

Is this normal? (I know it is for my cories & DG to grab a gulp now & then).

probs hungry angels wanting their dinner early lol

do you have adequate air flow into the tank? how warm do you keep the water? sometimes fish will go to top to "milk" the thin layer of oxygen on the surface water.

if they do it when you approach..I'd supect begging..My wild scalare do it when it's feeding time.

other wise..make sure you have good water movement and mixing.(surface agitation)

This is piling on, but my Scalare angels do this right after feeding time when I've fed them flakes (some of which float on top of the water). My angels eat like pigs and I agree that yours are probably looking for more food.

Your angel is begging for food i guess :) Why don`t you feed more than usual for a week and see if it makes any difference.

I feed mine once a day and all of them beg exactly like that.
