Opa, the female is the one in the first pic w/ the round red spot on her belly. It gets very pronounced when they spawn or even when you just drop some food in the tank or vac the gravel. My daughter says it looks like you can see her "guts".
Hightimez, I really haven't done anything to encourage this pair to breed. They breed every few weeks without fail, guard the babies, herd them around the tank, then eat them and do it all over again. The temp in the tank is around 78*F. They are alone in their 20H, they don't play well w/ others. They have a rock cave w/ a sand bottom, which they love. They eat your basic flakes, freezedried bloodworms, and various frozen foods. They also graze on the algae that grows in their tank. I've heard a drop in temp can encourage them to spawn, but mine have done just fine on their own. Good luck w/ yours, hope you have better luck raising them than I have. lol
