This is more addictive than I thought!

Greetings all. I'm brand new to fishkeeping (if we don't count the scores of innocent lake denizens I murdered in stagnant buckets as a child--oops) and I've discovered this is scarily addictive, even just the research part!

I have a 10-gallon tank cycling fishless just now, and a betta in a 1.5g (small, yes, but I had to rescue one from the store, poor fella, he was in a plastic cup) who'll be heading to his bigger home when it's ready.

I think the most fun part so far has been the planning of the tank. The weeks it takes to cycle offer lots of time for back and forth mind changes about what fish I'd like to get. I have two other tanks currently housing gerbils, and so someday (after some thorough cleaning and fresh silicone) I'll have a 15-gallon and a 29-gallon to play with too.

Hope to learn a lot here. :)

Good luck with your new setups, let us know how there doing..the Gerbils fur may clog the intake tho.....Weeser...

Welcome to AC!

I couldn't agree more!
I'm in the process of cycling my 12gallon tank as well, with a betta and a snail in it. Sadly though, I just noticed today that the betta is very bloated and not active, which from some research, could be Dropsy... something fatal most of the time, with unknown causes.

Good luck on your fishkeeping, and have fun planning your tank! :)
