We regret to inform you that your snail has moved on to the bridge.
Empty snail shells are not evidence of molting. They are evidence that your gastropod has passed on and that his body has been recycled.

We offer our sincere condolences.

I'm sorry to report there's no such thing as snail molting. If the shell is empty, the snail is dead. Check to be sure the snail hasn't retreated farther than normal into the shell. If it's an apple or mystery snail, it will have an operculum (like a door) it uses to close off the shell and protect itself inside. If you look into the shell and see the operculum, then the snail is still in there. If, on the other hand, the shell smells like a seafood restaurant's dumpster, he's probably dead.

If this happens regularly, try Malaysian Trumpet Snails. They have a tough "door" and tough shells. There isnt' much that can mess w/ them.

Just curious, how old(or big)is your african clawed frog? I'm just curious because it seems he must be pretty small or all of your other fish would be gone or highly harassed. Nothing else alive gets past any of my frogs, they are voracious! I've even had one of my bigger ones eat a smaller one that I thought there was no way in heck it would fit in her mouth! LOL!

It is amazing how big a meal a frog will eat in one bite.

I take we are talking about Africa Clawed Frog and not Africa Dwarf Frog...the ADF wouldn't eat the Snail would it?

No probably not, but I promise you on everything that is holy, if yours is an albino, it's 100% a clawed frog, even if it was sold as a dwarf. That happens alllll the time! I recently purchased 3 little frogs sold as dwarf at Walmart. They were in such dirty little cups, and I had an extra 10 gallon tank and figured what the heck! Got 'em home, and lo and behold, I have 3 more clawed frogs! Check the front feet for webbing, I'm pretty positive your's won't have any webbing, which tells us he(or she!)is a clawed frog.

And being confused as I usually am(lol!), I don't mean "yours" since you weren't the original poster. I absolutely HATE to have a Monday on Wednesday, but that's my day today! But dwarfs don't come in the albino pigment, only the darker pigments.

It absolutely blows my mind to watch my big female stuff herself! She'd stuff 2 or 3 feeder fish in there if they'd fit! She's also the first one to my hand to be handfed(or petted, she's big on that too!)! Hilarious to watch!
