Would convicts and firemouths get along in a 55-gallon tank? I've heard convicts are too aggressive for firemouths.

I have had great results with these fish even in a 35 gallon tank. i think the key is rocks and cover and A lcouple of powerheads to give the fish a current to fight against rather than each other.

My pink convict and jack dempsey provide hours of entertainment struggling back and forth for majority control of 6 feet tank. I'm sure the results would be much the same with fire mouthes. Are you planning on putting in pairs? Things could get messy in a 55 if a pair decided to mate.

You could easily set up a 55 gallon with Convicts and Firemouths. I originally had a huge female Convict and 4 small Firemouths in my 55. Then I introduced a medium sized Green Terror that killed the Firemouths.

I have seen these fish kept together. It can be done. Sometimes a convict and a firemouth will even spawn!

I have a male Firemouth that dominates my tank and has spawned with my female Salvini.
