i have a couple tiger barbs and i notice that one of them has a tail fin that is deteriorating. the other barb is perfectly fine. what is the cause of this lack of fin and what can be done if anything?

what does it mean?

one more thing, i just looked at him again and right below his tail fin, on the back side it looks like he has a cloudy substance on him (like cotton). it looks kinda thich, kinda transparent but visibly cloudy.....along with deteriorating fins.

its a fish disease...=\ prolly a fungus or ich. you should get some medicine for them. and just talk to your LFs associate and as them how to do it the right way so you can save your fishy!!

but in the meantime you might want to quarentine your fish in another tank so that the other fish doesnt catch it.

good luckkkkk =]

Do an immediate PWC. What r ur water parameters?

Also, this sounds like fungus and/or fin rot -- Here is a good source: http://www.tropicalfishcentre.co.uk/Diseases1.htm
Cotton Wool effect on the bodyFungus, Columnarius (Mouth fungus)If you see this disease, can use medication (ie "Anti Fungus") and a Salt bath (1 teaspoon per gallon)
Fraying of the soft tissue (fin membrane)Fin Rot, the disintegration of the finsUse medication before a secondary infection occurs, it will take several days before there is serious fin damage. Could use salt bath (1 teaspoon per gallon)
The fin rot was probably the doorway for the fungus. In either case, salt baths are probably ur safest bet, but medications are also available.
