View Full Version : Propagating Mushrooms?

Ive got some large hairy mushrooms growing on my togna rock and I want to split them... since I've already got a good amount of mushrooms throughout my tank I thought I'd just pop the heads off (about 6-8inch per shroom) and let the stems regrow and place the heads elswhere...
Sound like a good plan... and if so, how easy do the heads come off?
Thanks

Good link Germanman. I might try that myself as my mushrooms are spreading but only close to their original rock, it might be nice to balance the tank out a bit.

Be very careful with mushrooms. I started with 5 mushrooms and had over 200 after a few years. At that point I couldn't add anything else to my tank because they sting the heck out of other corals. They are beautiful but I would keep them in check and make sure they don't get out of control unless that is what you are looking for.

That last link was crazy...
A blender? seems harsh to me, but I wanna here how it works out... If they can live through that, I think the stems can grow new heads and the heads new stems... I think...
I also liked the idea about the orange bag...
Thanks

You can also set their rock in a high flow area . They won't like it and they'll try to move out of the flow as they do so they leave bits of their feet behind. Just, leave the rock in high flow for a couple of days and move back to normal area. You'll have several new ones or you can just use a razor and cut of little bits of foot they will also grow into new shrooms fast.
Like rothchyld said they can be weeds

Just how do you get mushrooms to take off? I've got a few on my LR and they seem to look sick most of the time. They're not dead but I have had them for quite awhile and they don't do a thing. What do I need to do?:help:
how much light do you have lebloom? How do they look and how clean do you keep your tank?

i've got a PC lighting with 2 65w lights and I do a 10% water change once a week.
What are your params and how old is the tank? They do better if the water is a touch to the dirty side.

I'd say my waters on the dirty side, but I do a 10% change every week. Tank itself is a good 7 seven years old. The parameters, I don't know haven't check for a while. Last time everything normal except hardness which was low, but not too low.
