I am tired of going out and buying the blue filter cartridges. I have been looking for a sponge to replace the cartridge that can be cut to fit. I have looked at sponges in stores in the houseware, pet, and automotive sections but they are either not long enough or not thin enough. Does anyone have any ideas for other places to look?:huh:

Ummm, don't tell anyone but I cut down a white doodle bug pad and use it. Rinses easily and never wears out.... Well, not yet anyway. You can get them at a Custodial supply house, (OK, I'm a Custodian and I get them from work. Hey, it's a perk.) cleaning places maybe, hardware stores, other places too I suppose. Look, around.
 
Be careful as many house cleaning type sponges have anti mildew and anti bacterial additives.

What size sponge do you need? I bought fluval replacement sponges which I was able to cut down to fit a Whisper HOB filter. I have been running it for 4 years now.
 
Have you checked out using a sponge for a canister filter and doing a cut to fit?

Why not rinse and reuse the blue cartridge?
