Are there any convict varieties? I have 3 of them, 2 in one tank and the other on a separate one. The only reason why i'm asking is because the male i have in a solo tank has the typical elongated dorsal and anal fin, but the male in the tank with the female doesnt. Plus, the other two convicts have a green tint to their dorsal and anal fins, while the other doesnt at all. It's completely black. I know i've heard there was a "black convict" variety but i'm just wondering now if the other convicts i have are actually mutts or is it the "normal" coloration?

There are black, pink, and calico convicts(2nd generation pink and black convict hybrid). You could possibly have Hondora Redpoints. They have blue and green on their fins. Or your convicts could be a wild coloration.

I'll get a picture up as soon as i can get my camera back. but i was actually thinking it could have been honduran red points, but someting about them tells me convict.. just not sure.. They just dug a hole right next to the opening of a broken jar that i have in their tank. hmm maybe they'll breed? As for now the color changes dramatically. I know that when they both flare their fins, you can really see the greenish blue tint, but when it's down you can't really tell that it's anything else. yeah and right now the male just flared at me and the black stripes are very obvious. They seem to be less aggressive than the "black convict" that i have separated...Maybe it is a wild variety?

I have heard many times that some breeders have introduced HRP blood to normal convicts to enhance their blue and red coloration. I have no evidence top back this up, but I wouldn't be surprised if a lot of our "LFS" convicts are hybrids.
Not to mention their a a few species of Cryptoheros.
