I just got a 55 gal and decided to do Salt Water because of the extream larger scale of interesting inhabitants.
I Have Crushed Coral and Live sand (no fish or plants) and my salinity is 1.024 and my PH is 8.0. I'm going to Italy for 3 weeks in April and wanted to put plants and Live Rock in now so when I get back on May 2nd I can look for a couple of Damsels to test my Aquarium.
My friends older brother just gave me 35lbs of Live Rock that he had sitting in his basement. Is this still good to use?? Not sure how long he's had it but at least over a year. He told me to cure it by boiling each piece for 10 minutes(didn't say in regular or salt water) and then add it to my tank. Is this possible/safe? Everywhere I've read makes the curing process alot harder and longer.
Also another question is do I need a power head for the Live Rock alone without fish?
