Live Rock Questions

well if u biol it it will be fine but ti wont be live anymore ans isnt really since its been in ur basement. dont use crushed coral it causes many water quality issues later on. also what do u mean by plants? corals or algae? and powerheads should be used for even flow u cant have dead spots in the tank. u want at least 10x turn over.

i agree with germanman. crushed coral = problems and the live rock will only be rock now.

Why dont you like crushed coral ? I prefer it over sand as way easier to vacuum when I do my weekly water change (fowler tank).
I tried sand but it was a pain and would get on my live rock,etc when I vacuumed very happy with the crushed coral .

For the rock thing:

Use that rock for 'base rock' in your tank, and then go to the petstore and buy another 30 lbs of live rock. This will seed your base rock and it'll all be live again sometime soon.

This is what I did with my 55g:

35 lbs of base rock i bought from somebody's basement (sound familiar?)
45 lbs of live fiji cured rock from petco (they sold it to me for pennies, really)
40 lbs of live substrate (arag-live or whatever)
salt

2 weeks my tank was fully cycled. Seriously. How sweet was that?

I like crushed coral and granted your rock is dead rock but if its pouros Marine type rock than it will be great for decoration and fish need hide areas,etc and will intime have good bacteria.
I am not into corals just fish and feather dusters but your tank sounds fine . Initially you will need bio but after the rock builds up bacteria you wont.
My 55 has crushed coral Live rock and is filters with an Emperor 400 (has 2 bio wheels which I later took out but worked well) and hang on back CPR skimmer and a small powerhead in a corner .
I dont see anything wrong with your tank set up at all and keep in mind so so many ways to set up a marine tank .
However if you want to remove the crushed coral than just buy one of those clear plastic tubes that any hardware store sells and suck it out with that into a bucket .
I use a 1/2 inch type tube to vacuum tank bottom .

Nice Rottweiller my uncle had one . It bit a Bufo Marinus and wouldnt let it go(they are all over his area) it passed away at the vets.

That's sad. I just had mine at the vet the other day, and someone had to have their dog put down. Kids were crying. It wasn't cool.

Yes my aunt few months later wanted another one but my uncle said no. He was devastated over the loss and the Marine toads are all over his area so it would be wreckless to get another dog.

I myself am terrified of Rottweillers but his dog was nice to me and great watchdog and family member with them.
