I'm sure I'm at least a little wrong, but I count 4 males 1 female, but that's just my eye. The one that looks like a female has either eaten VERY well or is prego. Lets see what the edumacated ones among us think:)
Regardless their all gorgeous!
As far as your pic's, not that they're bad cause they're not, you might try to hold your camera higher or lower, even at a stronger angle to eliminate the flash glare off the tank glass. Maybe turn all the light's you can on in the room & in the tank or if you can turn your flash off then that will wrk light's on or off, make sense, hope so:) Take as many pic's as you can & you'll see what wrk's best, most of the time closer is better for flash @ the right angle. Oh & there isn't anything wrong w/ that slide show, great job!
Last thought, I'm not a "cat person", but the cat licking the glass, that is hilarious. I know simple thing's for simple mind's:)

You definately have it all mixed up. The females are brown and the males are the colorful ones. The yellow one is def. a male. Im not sure about the red peacock(the one with the red outline fins). It could possibly be a male. Nice Yellow by the way.

So pretty much we all agree they are peacocks then right?? That was my biggest concern.
"Im not sure about the red peacock(the one with the red outline fins)."
This one I know is a female she is the one I origanaly got that I thought was a jacob, she had babies not to long ago and I thought I had hybrids..then after looking at more pic's I thought she looked more like a peacock she is the biggest reason for my post, I wanted to find out if she was a peacock or not.

Thank you!!!:dance2:

Thought you might chk out http://www.cichlid-forum.com/profiles/species.php?id=1383use select search by Genus try some of these Aulonocara, Protomeles, Copadichromis. Then it will give list's, when you touch on 1 of the names it will show you a profile, under the pic's there is an "images" box w/ a subbox next to it, if there are additional pic's of them then you can select them & it will show you what ever pic's are on their files, sometimes there is only 1 pic, the 1 thats showing, but most of them have more than 1 & mght have pic's of juv's, subadult or adult & if you're lucky females:) I just did this & went dwn the list to a Aulonocara jacobfreibergi (Otter Pt.) which looks alott like 1 of yours. Maybe you might find some other's, "just a thought". Color or not their all beautiful.:)
For what its worth I've seen alott of what I refer to as the "Peacock" class (Aulonocara, Protomeles, Copadichromis ect.) in my 25yrs. w/ African Cichlid's & I along w/ others thought, I/we were looking at a subadult male or female until they reached adulthood & quickly changed color's drastically or got pregnant, LOL:laugh: For what ever its worth:)

OK I've come to the conclusion that the 1 I thought was a jacob (otter point), is just that after looking at pic's more (was hoping to be wrong) since she had babies I was hoping they would be the same as their daddy!
Here is the pic from cichlid-forums:http://www.cichlid-forum.com/profiles/species.php?id=1383use

Oh and I have learned about the change of color look at the kenyi I had that I just KNEW was a female:

now here "HE" is today:

I'm still not sure about the others, my problem is so many females look so much alike!
Thanks everyone!

Almost all my females have a red trim to their fins. I don't worry about exact species because unless you know for sure, you don't really know. It is too likely that they are hybrids, especially when you are examining females, they are just too similar. What are you feeding? What size tank is it? Is it just those peacocks in there?

So I really shouldn't worry about it, is that what you are sayin? The males are definately easier to tell! I didn't actually buy any of them so I have know idea...see I got 2 "sets" from 2 different people that were not treating them right (one was going to flush them:mad2: the other was going to add them with 2 oscars in a 40g tank) both got them from wal-mart just labeled as african cichlids. Since then I have been trying to figure out what I have so I can best accomidate for them.
Anyway to answer your questions now: At the moment they are in a 55g tank, with 4 kenyi's (1 adult male 3 unknown juvies), 4 zebras I think they are anyway (1 large male 1 large unknown and 2 unknown juvies) I will be adding pics of these guy's too to get opinions of them, 3 yellow labs (1 adult unknown and 2 unknown juvies) and 3 scissor tail rasbaras, oh and 2 little suckie fish. I know this is to much for the 55 they were in 2 different tanks but the other tank seal broke and and it cracked across the bottom so I had to throw them all in the same tank for now...I am waiting for a cousin of mine to finish building me a stand for the 75g tank I have than I will be splitting them up. I am feeding them cichlid flake food, dried krill, dried bloodworms, spirulina flakes and the frozen bloodworms, frozen krill, and frozen spirulina brine shrimp. I throw in grasshoppers, crickets, and worms from time to time and they eat the ghost shrimp whenever I buy those too.

Ideally the rasboras and suckers won't be in with the Africans, and the Africans will be split up so the mbunas are in one tank and the peacocks are in another. For care purposes it really doesn't matter what species they are, and since they came from Wal-Mart just assume they are nto pure bred. I would feed the cichlids New Life Spectrum and nothing else, that's all my Africans get and their colors are amazing.

That's pretty much what I had planned..the mbunas in the 75 and the peacocks in the 55. I plan on moving the rasboras into my 10g once I can take the babies out, I know that is not very big but it is only 3 of them and they are small. The "suckies" I can't remember the name they kinda look like the SAE's but instead of the strip down their side they have spots. I dont really know what I want to do with them. As far as the lab's I'm not sure which tank would be best for them. I want to get 40g for them but right now I have to get everything for my 75 (sand, rocks ect...) I have the tank, filters (1 HOB and 1 canister), heater, & some decor' I still need a light for it though, it is a long one not the regular 48", this one is 60"long and 13" wide.

The Labs could stay in the same tank as the Peacocks since they have similar nutrition needs and aggression levels. I'd just make sure they have some rockwork and the Peacocks have open space.

I would put the labs in with the mbunas since they are mbunas. I only feed New Life Spectrum to all three of my African cichlid tanks. It is a complete (and the best) diet for carnivores, omnivores, and herbivores. So the best thing for both tanks would be NLS, so the diet is not really an issue. I didn't believe it at first either, but after tryign it NLS is really the best thing out there, and it is the best thing for all three diets.
