I assume this is common, but his body changes colors a lot ... gets darker and lighter (usually lighter when he's eating it seems). Ever since I got him he's had these reddish/rusty colored markings on his fins. They aren't very noticeable until his colorings are lighter. It seems I read somewhere that ammonia poisoning can cause blood vessels to burst and look like this? The water parameters are fine and ammonia free here. I'm just curious if this is most likely the results of something that's happened in his past or if it's something I should be concerned about? I guess I always assumed they would fade away, but they haven't yet.

Here is a pic:

PS Yes I know he will grow to be HUGE, not sure what I'll do with him. I do have a 150gal I'm setting up over the summer, but I was leaning towards putting discus in there ... soo may have to find him a home when he outgrows me here :)

He looks okay to me. Plecos constantly change color, depending on mood, hunger etc. Has anything happened recently that makes you think he is sick? If he is eating normally, I wouldn't worry.:)

No he seems fine. Just started really noticing those markings again since I added some fish to his tank about a month ago, so I've been watching them all close to make sure all is well.
