I'm have a 30 gallon tank that has peeling silicone sealant on it. I used a razor blade and cut off the parts that were really just hanging there. I got a new aquarium safe sealant to do the job.
yeah... get some alcohol and clean the area with it before you apply new silicone.. and make sure you have absolutely NO old silicone left, as the new sealant will not bond to the old sealant. tape around the corner to create a clean edge, lay a nice bead, press it in with a clean finger, remove tape, and let cure for 48-72 hours. voila.

I tested the tank and it still holds water with no leaks. are you absolutely sure I should tear out all the old sealant? Couldn't I just go over the bare minimium sealant still left and reinforce it?
