leaky tank tips

I'm have a 30 gallon tank that has peeling silicone sealant on it. I used a razor blade and cut off the parts that were really just hanging there. I got a new aquarium safe sealant to do the job.

Any tips on resealing a tank?
 
yeah... get some alcohol and clean the area with it before you apply new silicone.. and make sure you have absolutely NO old silicone left, as the new sealant will not bond to the old sealant. tape around the corner to create a clean edge, lay a nice bead, press it in with a clean finger, remove tape, and let cure for 48-72 hours. voila. :)
 
Make sure it's all bone dry before applying sealant too.

I tested the tank and it still holds water with no leaks. are you absolutely sure I should tear out all the old sealant? Couldn't I just go over the bare minimium sealant still left and reinforce it?

also, what type of alcohol will work? THANKS!!!!!
 
i resealed the tank and I am letting it dry. it smells like vinegar and has stunk up my living room. lol.

i didn't use tape, but that is a great idea, oh well. in two days I'm gonna fill it up with water.
