I have a red CT male betta. He lived by himself in a 1.7 gal tank. I just recently upgraded to a 10 gal tank, Ive added a few live plants (java fern, a couple small borneo sword, and a couple of apongenton (sp?) bulbs.) along with a couple fake plants. I also bought him a buddy, a gold mystery snail, decent sized. My question is, in the old tank it had an undergravel filter. I had purchased a Nano Art Deco filter by red sea to use with the old tank, and I absolutely loved it! The 10 gal new tank came with a TopFin 10 gal tank filter, Im not sure if that's any good. But I was curious, I know it won't do THAT great of a job, but for a single betta, do you think that a 3 gal filter would do a decent job? He is a very clean betta, doesnt make a lot of waste. And he doesn't like the high current, also being another reason why I (and him) love the nano filter. So I know that the 3 gal nano filter wont be as efficient as the 10 gal that came with the tank, but will it still do the job?

well, if its just a betta fish with some snails the nano filter u described would be fine. if you want, you could actually not use the filter at all as the live plants will help keep the waste in check. just be sure to keep up on water changes and not overfeed and its good to go!:joe:

If you think that the old filter is not enough to do the job you could always add it to the new filter and run both of them at the same time. The old filter will help to seed the new filter and speed up the cycling process in the new tank. Do not think that it is too much filteration for a betta. I have a betta in my ten gallon tank with some rasboras and the tank is being filtered with two filters; a penguin 125 and an aquaclear mini as well as all of the live plants and the betta and the rasboras are fine with it. In fact my betta loves to swim back and forth quite often in the back of the aquarium where he can feel the current from the filters the most.
