Hi everyone, i am pretty new to the cichlid world, i have 2 rams and 2 angels but i was wondering about discus.
What do you think would be the smallest tank to breed discus in?
What if you wanted to keep just a few (2-4) for show?
What do you keep your discus in?

Discus are shoaling fish and do best in groups of 5 or more. The general rule is you should have 10 gallons of water per adult discus. So you probably should have at least a 50 gallon aquarium to keep discus. The smallest tank I would recommend for a mated pair of discus is 29 gallons.

:spam:I have 5 in 30 gal. :spam:

I have 5 in a 55gal...For a breeding pair (must be a confirmed pair) they can live in 20gal tank easily (with no other fish)...but for a show tank nothing less than a 50-55min.

I keep mine in a 75..but hope to get a 150-200 for discus.

the smallest tank to keep discus pairs in is a 20 however, I would recommend a 29-40..discus can get quite large..my largest is about 6" and still growing he dwarfs my largest angel..knowing that and seeing 3 that I kept in a 29 for Q..I personally feel a pair should be in a 29 minimum with no other fish..bare bottom.
