DIY hood and glass top concerns

I’m planning on building a DIY hood (http://www.ahsupply.com/diy.htm) for the ashsupply 1 x 96w kit. (http://www.ahsupply.com/96watt.htm). I’m concerned about the heat that the light kit puts out, will the glass top be ok with a hood sitting directly on top of it? Or will it need some sort of legs for proper ventilation?

I know nothing about those lights in particular. An alternative/addition to adding legs would be to add a fan. A lot of folks have used computer cooling fans ($5 at nearly any PC store) in their DIY hoods. I used one in mine. Easy to do as well.

What do you power those fans with? They're 12v DC, right? I was thinking about the fan route but was not sure if that's enough to dissipate the heat generated by the bulbs. I also noticed the DIY hood had gaps on the top where heat can vent out.

Look around. I bet you have an old phone, answering machine, radio, PC speakers, etc. that has a 12v power chord (usually has a large square end that plugs in the wall). I used one from an old VHS tape rewinder. If you cant find one, radio shack sells em for a small fortune. About $18 here. Cut the small end off and connect the wires to your fan. Simple as that really. Of course, you might want to use wire nuts or, at minimum, electrical tape to cover the connection for safety reasons.

As for that being enough to cool the lights you are looking at using, I have no clue. Sorry.

Thanks and no problem on the cooling. I'm sure people have used it the same way I'm planning on doing it but there's that little bit of concern on the heat part and the glass top. I'd like to plan ahead if someone already had experiences to share about it.
