Beautiful, and *very* clean fish. They have been treated for parasites and are active and healthy. All fish are eating bio-pure bloodworms and colorbits.

I raised Discus years ago, but started with an established tank. What is the best way to start from scratch, and how long will it take before it is ready to put Discus in. I have to clean gravel if I decide to use it ?? I also have to clean the aquarium, filters, decorations, and hood. It all has been sitting for seven years. Any advice that you give me would be appreciated.

I am partial to bare bottom tanks for discus because it is easier to keep free of detritus. As you can see in the picture, I just sprinkle some gravel down to break up the reflection on the bottom. I've found some pairs get worked up if they see the reflection.

If the tank is new, seed it with gravel from an existing tank. If you don't have any tanks, ask a friend for some gravel from a seasoned tank. Use that to sprinkle on the bottom. If you can, seed your filter with some filter media from an established tank. This kickstarts your biological filter.

This is what *I* have had success with. There are many different methods.

If you have any other questions, please PM me.
