After being unable to find a power bar I like... I've decided to make my own.

I'm going to set it up with 3 4x4 electrical device boxes (2 gang). Each of the 3 will house 1 switch that controls the neighbouring duplex recepticle. Total of 3 switches controlling 6 plugs (3 duplex rec)

All 3 will be wired together with a single SOW (cabtire) cable going to the wall recepticle (as my total wattage including heaters doesn't exceed 600w) Wall recepticle will be replaced with a GFI

Now all of my devices are switched with an 1875 watt recepticle to plug into. No arcs. No ground faults.

All can be done for $30

I don't see where you are saving anything.

I did read the post. Giving my opinion, that's all.

Similar project here!

I've been thinking about adding a moonlight to my tank, but don't really want another timer that will have to be adjusted any time the power goes out, and after having no luck finding any 2way timers, I've decided that next week I will make one during my lunch hours (I work for a company in the industrial automation sector) Figure that the plug and recepticals will be the most expensive part. Other than that it's just a simple 24 hour timer and some wire... I'll be using a basic 4 plug wall socket box, have the timer mounted at the top left with 3 wall sockets, one below and 2 beside. One socket or the other will be on depending on the timer and the third will be always on. With this design, I haven't decided yet whether I'll hardwire it directly in the wall, or include an AC plug and just set it on the desk.
