I am so mad.... :mad2: I have set up a vet's appointment for my Rosie for a blood test next week. We feed her the Nutro wet and dry (although the dry is not affected). I have a bunch of wet food in the house that is on the recall list, and this has been going on since the beginnning of December. No telling how many she's eaten... Kidney failure is a progressive thing...
Yesterday she was throwing up all day. The recall seems to be from one of the NJ plants...
Drats!! I don't know what I'd do if something were to happen to her. She's my girl.....
I work at a vet and we were inundated with phone calls this morning. Thank goodness the recall doesn't cover dry food as well!
If it makes you feel any better, we ran bloodwork on some cats who eat the affected Nutro pouches this morning (as their main diet), and everything was normal. Hopefully your cat will be fine as well, most of the recall is precautionary.
for that info. Sorry, didn't mention that Rosie's my Flat Coated Retriever, but my cat frequently samples her wet food sometimes (and she's 20 and already has renal troubles).....
I did go to the Nutro site today, and they're saying that so far their food hasn't been the culprit, but how do they know? Maybe none died from eating the food, but kidney damage could come on gradually.
WOW I fed all the puppies my female just had nutro wet food to ween them, I don't have the cans any more. But my female has had explosive diariaha twice today. I just figured she got something out of the trash that sisn't agree with her. Guess I have to call the vet.
Thank you so much for this thread. A couple of months ago, my cats refused to eat some of the IAMS I usually give them. I called Iams to complain and they gave me coupons for more food. I hope that had nothing to do with what was going on at the plant back then.
Well, I just got back from the vet with Rosie, and the news was not so good. It seems as she has very elevated liver numbers. I think the vet told me that normal was between 50 and 100 and Rosie's was 559....
I am so sad and mad at the same time. Now what do I do?? The vet told me to not return any of the food that is on the recall list and to save it. She put her on antibiotics and I have to bring her back in 2 weeks for a re-check. If her numbers do not come down, she'll have to be put on IV fluids.....
Hopefully she'll live that long.... I'm so bummed.... She's only 2
:sad:I am so sorry about your doggie. I had a cat with elevated liver numbers once and the antibiotics did make it go away. I pray that your doggie can be saved and will be OK.
