:help:This may be a stupid question but I'll throw it out there anyways.

We set up our 25g tank with zebra danios five weeks ago. Ammonia hovered around .25 for the past couple weeks (though it's really hard to judge against the colour card as the water in the test tube is yellow and the test card colours are more orange, but I digress). Been doing 15% water changes regularly. Ph looks about 8.

Nitrites over the past week or so have been .1. Still waiting for a spike. Today I tested for Nitrates and saw there were at 5mg. I didn't think nitrates were supposed to appear until the nitrite spike, so I don't know what's going on. Is my tank cycling properly? Can nitrates appear without a nitrite spike? Is the nitrite spike not far behind?

Thanks in advance for any assistance. I'm a total newb!

Dont add any more fish and keep doing the water changes, your levesl look Ok for the fish you have right now, which are hardy.

Wait until you have nitrites at 0 for a few days before adding any more fish, and just in case you didn't get it, keep up the water changes!

Are you adding a water conditioner when doing water changes, such as Prime?

Okay, good. I'll just keep an eye on the levels and continue doing what I'm doing.

Yes, I am using a water conditioner for the water changes.

Thanks for your help!
