Hey everyone i need help stocking my 29 gallon tropical tank.
I currently have 2 platys inside and i want to add some more fish, not all at once of course.
I want to add a dwarf frog, dwarf gourami, discus, pleco, otto and a yoyo loach.Maybe ghost shrimp and angel fish but not sure. Can i get some advice on which breeds to get and if they all will go ok together in a community tank. Also how many of each fish can i keep i dont want to overstock, but i know some like to be kept in shoals. Really appreciate any advice givin to me since im new to fish keeping and im reading up on it as much as i can.Btw i dont have any live plants but i would love to get some if it would be ok to mix with fake ones and maybe get some tips on keeping them and which are great for beginners with my size tank and community.Tnx for reading

Leave out the discus. They are very fragile expensive fish that require more than 29 gallons and are very particular about water paramaters and extremely easily stressed.

Also scratch the pleco. They get huge. We had a 12 inch pleco at the fish store I used to work at. A bristlenose pleco might work. They only get about 3-4".

The gourami and the angel might fight with each other but could get along, you could try it...

As far as live plants first make sure you have enough lighting. The regular one-tube light strips that come with most hoods are inadequate. The easiest plants to keep are anubias species, crypts, java fern, and java moss, and all of these do OK in fairly low light. http://www.ahsupply.com for some inexpensive lighting kits. Hope that helps and best of luck with your new setup!

I suggest:

4 or 5 platys
6 zebra danios
1 bristlenose pleco

It will be colorful, active, and interesting.

edit: Almost forgot, make sure to read up on the "cycle" this is very important for your fish to live.

common plecos get over 2 feet long. you could put a pair of angels in the 29 gal. ditch the idea of pleco yoyo discus

start with some good lighting. you can go cheap way with screw in power compact bulbs from somehwere like walmart. you could go spend the money and go with lights from ahsupply they are well worth it but not everyone has the money for them.
