The other day I found a Farm and Feed store that sells crushed oyster shells for 59 cents a pound. I asked the guy behind the counter what it was doing there and he told me that it was for chickens to help them produce better eggshells (makes sense to me).

1. Are there different grades of COS?
2. Is it safe for me to use the COS as a kh increaser?
3. Is there anything that I should do to it before I add it to my tanks, sanitize or boil it?

Avoxo,

I use oyster shells (crushed) in one of my tanks... just rinse them really well and use them like you would crushed coral.... ( I put mine in a nylon baggie in the filter).... i havne't noticed any difference between crushed coral and crushed oyster shells, i use the same amount in each tank.

HTH... Decz :)
