Since many snails have stripes on their shells, try this: the Apple Snail website at www.applesnail.net/ has a section devoted to other aquatic snails. Excellent photos help you identify your snails, and there is information on snails in general.
Make a note of the scientific name of your striped snail. then you can www.google.com it for lots of information.
Then come here and tell us what you've got, and lots of posters will be able to give you more focused information.

Hi Valerie,
I also picked one up last week, labeled as a zebra snail. If yours in anything like mine check out Neritina natalensis. That seems to be what mine looks like. :)
